TESTIMONIALHaving suffered with claustrophobia for many years the prospect of an MRI scan filled me with dread. When I arrived at Heath Lodge Clinic I was immediately put at ease. Dr. Beale and his staff were excellent. They were so patient and understanding. I think I must have been the worst patient that had passed through their doors but they were wonderful. A dose of a sedative was given and I was away with the fairies. I would thoroughly recommend this clinic to anyone like myself who has any fears whatsoever.

I am extremely claustrophobic and i was dreading having a head scan. I arrived at the clinic to find all the staff extremely helpful and sympathetic. I decided to be scanned in the open doughnut scanner and decided to have a sedative. I can only say that i was totally at ease and it would not bother me in the slightest to go through the same procedure again.I think it would be advantageous to put on your profile that the scanner is only short in length in comparison to normal scanners. Thank you all so much for your help and patience.

After being told I needed an MRI Scan I became extremely
nervous about the prospect.I suffer with Parkinsons Disease and am also
claustrophobic and had also had a bad experience during a previous scan.
I was recommended to CMC Imaging and thank goodness I was. The Staff were
absolutely wonderful, caring & understanding and not once was I made to
feel silly or uncomfortable. Everyone was extremely professional and I would
not hesitate to recommend anyone who feels the way I do about scanning to go to
them. The whole process was swiftly done with plenty of reassurances from the
radiologist at every stage. My husband stood by me talking to me throughout
which was a great help.
I would like to thank Dr Beale and all the staff at CMC for looking after me.

Having plucked up courage to ring to book my MRI scan I found the receptionist very understanding when I told her of my previous bad experiences and my concerns about the MRI scanner.
Nevertheless, prior to my appointment at Heath Lodge Clinic I spent many hours of anxiety thinking of my previous experience. I could not have been more wrong. I found all of the staff very professional, compassionate and understanding and all questions were answered fully and without being rushed. The scan itself was not an unpleasant experience as I had anticipated but something that would hopefully help in the diagnosis of my condition without being stressful. It was not as noisy as I had anticipated, and it did help having a mirror placed so that I could look at parts of the room thus alleviating any panic. The fact that my husband was able to be in the room with me at the time of the scan giving me moral support was a great help.
The bonus was to leave after the consultation with Dr Beale, with some good news and a copy of the scan. Thank you again all at Heath Lodge Clinic for an unexpectly pleasant experience. It is certainly a clinic that I have since and will in the future recommend very highly to anyone who needs your services.

Just a note to thank you for all your care and attention. The clinic has a great convenient location, the staff are reassuring and professional. The gentleman who discussed my scan with me was patient and explained everything to me. When I took the scan to my knee specialist he commented on how good the quality was. Thank you again.

Having refused any MRI scan for years due to suffering from claustrophobia and the feeling of being closed in, I appreciated the way that time was taken to fully explain and show me the differences in the two types of MRI Scanners.
This greatly encouraged me to use the better cylindrical scanner even though it was fully enclosed
I surprised myself by agreeing to use the enclosed scanner.
I also much appreciated the suggestion that I could have a companion, i.e. my husband with me to give me reassurance.
I found that the total procedure was not at all frightening or stressful”

Although previously, I had had a Scan (at a different clinic) there was still apprehension involved; but from the phone call making the appointment, right through the whole procedure, I was reassured and in fact, found the experience very pleasant.
The scanner is much quieter than the previous one, with a short operating time, and I just lay there and relaxed!
Many thanks to all at Heath Lodge.”

It was nice to learn beforehand that the scanner is open ended, extra wide and the duration of the scan would only be around 10 minutes, along with the reassurance of no loss to the quality of the images. This was very welcome news, as I had been quoted 1 hour at other clinics. However it still does not remove all the anxiety on the day.
I can honestly say that I found the whole experience much less daunting than expected, and would have no problems if having to return for a similar scan.
There is no doubt in my mind that this was due to the excellent modern equipment, and your professional and friendly staff
The result was high quality images”

As you are aware I had previously tried to have an MRI scan at another Private Clinic and failed miserably. The previous clinic was more like a production line with no consideration for the anxiety of the patient and no advice on the procedures that would follow or any options to calm my nerves before or after. Hence I failed.
From the moment I contacted the Heath Lodge Clinic the experience was a totally different one. From the word go you could feel that the reception ladies were on your side and had every bit of empathy with my concerns, also advising that they had two scans available, an open and enclosed but with a much larger diameter tunnel. I believe that if I had received the same consideration previously I would have had a better chance of success. The previous day the icing on the cake was the contact of Dr Beale who again put my mind at ease advising on the pre scan medication.
Arriving at the clinic again I was totally put at ease. The car park facility is a joy and the magnificent house was like being home from home. (But on a much larger scale) Every step of the procedures was fully explained and agreed before and during my scan. With all the staff being very attentive at all times.
The finale being I had a very successful scan.
A very big thank you to all concerned”

At present I am recovering from a surgical procedure on my lower back and for the first time in six weeks I can actually use a laptop which is great as I am currently marketing my new book, Voices from a Blue Box “Tales of a Black Country Copper. I am a retired police officer and for most of my active life I played and enjoyed many sports, rugby being my particular game.
For about the last twenty years I have had issues regarding claustrophobia, a problem that I had managed to live with and hide from the majority of my peers throughout a successful working career.
I also have an occupation related history of lower back problems; in January 2000 I endured a double laminectomy/fusion procedure at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. Needless to say prior to this major operation I had to endure thirty minutes in an MRI scanner. On the dreaded day, I showed no fear, to quote a popular car bumper slogan of the time, allowing my eighteen stone, stocky frame to be crammed into a tiny restrictive tube, so restrictive in fact that I had to hold my arms above my head, like a ballet dancer, to fit into the contraption. Keeping my eyes tight shut I kept telling myself over and over again, like a mantra, must get through this, I will benefit in the long run, I must get through this, I will benefit in the long run, I must get through this, I will benefit in the long run! Sympathising with sardines, I was totally oblivious to whatever pearls of wisdom the technician was saying to me. My wife was sitting only feet away but psychologically, I couldn’t see or hear her, because of the racket this incredibly clever machine was making as it loudly clicked and whirred away.
Then it happened, about twenty minutes into my ordeal I felt the urge to fidget! An irresistible urge to shift my bulk, just ever so slightly mind. In a temporary lapse of severe concentration I made a huge error, I opened my eyes! I saw the top of the tube, about two inches above my head and thought immediately of coffin lids. I instantly felt nauseous, my throat was dry, the palms of my hands felt warm and clammy and my heart was beating rapidly. I felt like jumping out of the scanner there and then, remembering the last time I felt like this, when I’d been trapped between floors in a small lift with a large group of colleagues and I’d forced the sliding doors apart to crawl out. This time however, I thought of the enormous cost of repairing a damaged MRI scanner and managed somehow to clamp my eyes tight shut, returning to my mental mantra, hurriedly telling myself it was all downhill from here.
So, when I realised that I would have to face a similar ordeal I was reminded of the awful memory scarring torment of eleven years ago. It was with dread that I attended Heath Lodge, whose staff are both professional and reassuring. Indeed their Dr Beale rang me a few days before my visit to conduct a pre-brief of what I should expect during my visit, which I found tremendously helpful as it gave me the opportunity to inform them of my previous MRI experience. I was to be scanned in their state-of-the-art doughnut scanner, which has thankfully replaced the torturous metal cylinders of old. I lay on its stretcher like cradle confidently as the helpful technician slowly eased me through the roomy air-conditioned centre of the circular machine. The technician was about to start the scan as I distressingly began to experience my tell tale claustrophobic symptoms yet again. Uncomfortably and apologetically I explained to her that I suffered from this humiliating condition. She refreshingly understood my plight and assured me that the clinic had successfully dealt with numerous fellow suffers and that all would be well. The sympathetic Dr Beale prepared an oral medicinal relaxant and within minutes I was fully relaxed and ready to try again. The scanner seemed much quieter than the one I previously experienced and it took around ten appreciatively uneventful minutes for my examination to be completed. After another ten minutes the effects of the medication had fully worn off and Dr Beale issued me with copies of my scan to take to the consultant, which patently identified the latest herniation problem.
I’m glad that my consultant referred me to Heath Lodge. Dr Beale and his staff were very professional and reassuring throughout my brief visit and I would like to thank them again for their hospitality and would of course recommend the clinic to anyone who has any anxieties in regard to an MRI procedure. Thank you Heath Lodge.
